Starting your own business, or else keeping costs down so you can keep it running can be a challenge – particularly for small companies. Often, this leads to Offshoring or outsourcing them to outside firms.
Business process outsourcing can, in fact, include a broad range of possible tasks that can be subcontracted to a third party – and it’s always growing. Pinpointing what’s a ‘core task’- and what isn't – can be confusing. Here are a few you could hire someone outside the firm for.
1. Human resources. Large firms can usually afford to have an in-house team managing payroll, benefits, and other tasks HR is supposed to handle. Smaller businesses, however, may not have the resources, so they subcontract it to another party. If you want to focus on growing your company, it makes sense to do so.
2. Web programming and design. Once a website is up and running, it may need maintenance only now and then, unless daily updates are needed to stay on top. In such cases, the services of full-time staff to take care of it aren't usually required. Therefore, it’s best to hire an outsourcing firm, in order to handle it.
3. Medical services. You may be seeing a doctor, or perhaps the in-house company nurse, but certain tasks like adding info to patient records can actually be subcontracted. Typically, medical transcription accounts for the bulk of the services being outsourced.
4. Clerical work. This is typically offered in outsourcing for the same reason as HR tasks. A virtual assistant, for instance, can be on call to take care of jobs like data encoding or research. It’s best to hire someone who offers these services, so that management can focus on other concerns.
5. Customer service. This is pretty common and sometimes outsourced to a firm outside the country. The potential profit is obvious, since labor costs may be noticeably lower. If the outsourcing company consistently provides good service, a partnership may be in the making.
There are other services – company parking (yes, parking), for example – that you can hire a third party to take care of. So, whether you hire an internet marketing company to handle your firm’s website, or engage virtual assistants for clerical tasks, you’re sure to see the benefits soon.
